WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 23, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) — Kevin Kelly, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del., issued the following statement after the announcement that Senator Leahy has withdrawn patent reform from the Senate Judiciary Calendar for the foreseeable future:
“NAHB is greatly disappointed in yesterday’s decision to withdraw patent reform from the Senate calendar, therefore allowing patent abuses to continue at the expense of small businesses across the nation.
“Patent trolls continue to attack small businesses in home building and other industries with intentionally vague and misleading demand letters designed to do little more than extort money. The failure of Congress to take up patent reform has given trolls the green light to continue these deceptive practices.
“It is critical to reform the current patent system and stop the abuses. NAHB and other members of the Main Street Patent Coalition, a national, non-partisan coalition of organizations dedicated to stopping patent abuse, will continue to push for meaningful reform, and we call on our legislators to fix this broken system.”
