Statement of NHC President and CEO David M. Dworkin on the reintroduction of the Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY) Act

National -

Washington – RealEstateRama – The National Housing Conference (NHC) applauds U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) for introducing the Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY) Act. This important legislation was passed by the House in 2020 with bipartisan support. The YIMBY Act would require Community Development Block Grant recipients to publicly go on the record on why they are not adopting specific pro-affordability and anti-discriminatory housing policies.

Bipartisan legislation like the YIMBY Act is critical to addressing the impact of exclusionary zoning, which makes it harder for millions of Americans to find housing they can afford. These communities must eliminate restrictions that prevent building more affordable homes for ownership and rental.

NHC is proud to join over 100 housing and advocacy organizations from across the country to support passage of this important bipartisan legislation.
