Annual Energy Outlook 2017 (AEO2017), released today by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), presents updated projections for U.S. energy markets through 2050 based on eight cases (Reference, Low and High Economic Growth, Low and High Oil Price, Low and High Oil and Gas Resource and Technology, No Clean Power Plan implementation). This is the first time that EIA is publishing projections through 2050 in the AEO tables.

U.S. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, both R-Alaska, today introduced legislation that would allow limited oil and natural gas development within the non-wilderness portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).

Acting Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy David Friedman announced that the American Institute of Chemical Engineers will lead the tenth Manufacturing USA Institute to be stood up during the Obama Administration. This announcement represents a critical step in the Administration’s effort to double U.S. energy productivity by 2030. The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) and Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS) will host a dedication event for their landmark water-energy project on October 20 at 11:00 a.m. The project is the first-of-its-kind to integrate renewable resources and energy storage at a public water agency. The system uses Tesla battery technology to integrate solar, wind, biogas and grid resources in order to optimize renewable generation, reduce demand on the electric grid and lower energy costs.

The Energy Department's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently examined the carbon abatement potential of city actions in six policy areas as part of the DOE's Cities Leading through Energy Analysis and Planning (Cities-LEAP) project. The analysis uses new data on energy use in more than 23,400 U.S. cities and estimates the aggregate impact of city actions related to: building energy codes, public transit, building energy incentives, rooftop photovoltaics, smart growth, and municipal actions

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has been named a key strategic partner in the new Better Communities Alliance, which was announced by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the White House this week. The Better Communities Alliance (BCA) is designed to ignite clean energy action in cities and counties across the U.S. USGBC, through its sister organization, Green Business Certification Inc. Scientists at the Energy Department's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will lead an effort to model the complex and turbulent flow of wind through large wind plants as part of DOE's Exascale Computing Project (ECP), which is gearing up U.S. computational capabilities to prepare for the next generation of supercomputers. Consumers Energy’s interns made an impact on communities across Michigan this summer, helping feed over 3,000 people, picking up nearly 450 pounds of trash and providing educational programming for 120 children.
