WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 13, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) 50+ Housing Council announced the winners of its 2012 Best of 50+ Housing Awards, which honor excellence and innovation in the design, development and marketing of housing for older consumers. The awards program, returning after a year’s hiatus, was held during the International Builders’ Show and showcases the latest trends in housing for the mature market.
“This year’s winners often had to do more with less,” said NAHB Chairman Bob Nielsen, a multifamily and 50+ builder from Reno, Nev. “While developers and builders may have had to scale back the size of some communities, for these winners the focus was always on quality communities that offer 50+ residents a great lifestyle.”
Among the honorees was Meadow Ranch in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, which received a Gold award in the Best Green Community category. Its efforts in energy and water conservation, sustainable building techniques and its success in achieving zero water runoff and keeping 95 percent of construction waste out of landfills wowed the judges. Another Gold winner, NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, Mass., took top honors in the Nature and Landscape category. The sustainable site design spared large swaths of green space trees and shrubs, and every space in the building looks out onto vegetation.
There were 36 Gold award winners, 40 Silver award winners and seven entries honored with awards for innovation. View the complete list of this year’s winners at www.nahb.org/50plusawardwinners. Images of winners and finalists are available upon request.
