Transamerica partners with Habitat for Humanity to help families build affordable housing
BALTIMORE and ATLANTA – June 30, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — More than 300 Transamerica employees will help build or repair homes in eight cities across the United States this year in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. This is the company’s fifth consecutive year of partnering with Habitat, building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Participating Transamerica employees will volunteer at their respective Habitat build sites for a full day or more, helping either to transform existing properties or to build new, affordable homes. Their efforts will help revitalize neighborhoods in or near eight cities:

In Memphis, Transamerica employees will participate in Habitat’s 2016 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project during Aug. 21-26, to work alongside future homeowners and hundreds of volunteers. President and Mrs. Carter generously donate their time and voices annually to build homes and raise awareness of the critical need for affordable housing.
In all cities, each new home completed will be sold to qualifying Habitat families and financed with affordable loans. Habitat homeowners are selected through an application process based on level of need and a willingness to partner by investing time and effort, spending hundreds of hours building their home and houses for others.
“Transamerica’s core purpose is to help individuals and families achieve a lifetime of financial security,” said Mark Mullin, president and CEO of Transamerica. “Our employees have donated more than 12,000 hours over the past four years to help Habitat families achieve the American dream of homeownership. We’re honored to again partner with Habitat in transforming the prospects for families and creating the stability which homeownership makes possible.”
About Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity has grown from a grassroots effort that began on a community farm in southern Georgia in 1976 to a global nonprofit housing organization in nearly 1,400 communities across the U.S. and in over 70 countries. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
