Vitter: One Step Closer to Updating Nation’s Crumbling Transportation Infrastructure

Vitter looks forward to reconciling Senate and House versions of long-term bipartisan highway reauthorization bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 6, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure, issued the following statement regarding today’s vote in the U.S. House of Representatives passing the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act (H.R. 3819), which will reauthorize and reform federal highway, transit, and highway safety programs.Chairman Vitter was one of the leaders in developing the Senate version of the bipartisan highway reauthorization bill, and both bills are expected to go to conference in the coming weeks before going to the President to be signed into law.

“I certainly am familiar with the struggles of sitting in traffic on crumbling roads, and I know Louisianians recognize that roads and infrastructure are quite literally the foundation of our daily lives,” said Vitter. “My colleagues and I successfully passed the first long-term highway reauthorization bill in a decade earlier this year that will update and maintain our roads, highways, and bridges. As we move into conference to hammer out the details, I will continue to prioritize improving the flow of commerce, providing traffic relief so that folks can spend less time sitting on the roads and spend more time with their families.”

Chairman Vitter has tirelessly fought for reauthorization and reform of critical transportation legislation.
