Every year, the Housing Alliance celebrates and recognizes individuals, organizations, and lawmakers who have gone above and beyond to advocate for affordable housing and an end to homelessness.

An unprecedented six awardees will be recognized on Tuesday, May 27 during the Housing Alliance’s annual Bringing Washington Home event. This awards celebration is particularly significant. The Housing Alliance celebrates the incredible legislative victory of saving a significant amount of state homelessness dollars from expiring this past legislative session. This event will also be unique because we will be recognizing the extraordinary efforts of three state lawmakers who worked tirelessly for the homeless, despite difficult political obstacles.

To mark the occasion, the evening’s keynote speaker is federal housing champion and Senate Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee Chair U.S. Senator Patty Murray. Sen. Murray has long supported a variety of programs and legislation to help increase affordable housing in Washington and all over the U.S. Sen. Murray will highlight the power of advocacy in creating positive policy change and the pivotal role our state plays in the national low-income housing movement.

“To have a housing champion like Senator Murray join us while we recognize the efforts of three extraordinary state lawmakers and stellar advocates, I think there will almost be a tangible electric force of will and power in the room Thursday night,” says Housing Alliance Executive Director Rachael Myers. “Everyone will leave energized and ready to tackle the next obstacle: the upcoming fall elections and the 2015 State Legislative Session.”

The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance is a statewide organization leading the movement for creating affordable homes and ending homelessness. We utilize advocacy, education, and organizing to achieve our vision that all Washington residents have the opportunity to live in safe, healthy, affordable homes in thriving communities
