Get Current 2.0 Program Runs March 1 – June 30
Eligible Customers Receive Up to 50 Percent in Bill Credits and Waived Fees

Laurel, Md. – RealEstateRama – WSSC Water Commissioners today unanimously approved a second temporary water bill amnesty program to help income-constrained customers with delinquent water/sewer bills. WSSC Water’s Get Current 2.0 will launch on March 1 and run through June 30. The amnesty program assists eligible customers with a delinquent balance as of February 1, 2025, by providing bill credits up to 50 percent and 100 percent of late payment charges and turn-on fees waived.

Eligible residential customers whose household income is below 150 percent of the area median income* will receive the following benefits:

  • 50 percent bill credit for payment in full of the delinquent amount and 100 percent of late payment charges and turn-on fees waived; and
  • 25 percent bill credit for 50 percent payment of the delinquent amount and completion of a six-month payment plan. Upon completion of the payment plan, 100 percent of late payment charges and turn-on fees are waived. The 25 percent bill credit is applied after completion of the payment plan.

Residential customers above 150 percent of the area median income are eligible for the 100 percent waiver of late payment charges and turn-on fees if the delinquent balance is paid in full or a 50 percent payment is made and the balance paid within six months. Commercial and multi-unit residential accounts with master meters also qualify to have 100 percent of late payment charges and turn-on fees waived.

“We are extremely mindful of the economic challenges faced by many of our customers,” said WSSC Water Commission Chair T. Eloise Foster. “By enacting this temporary amnesty program for the second time in two years, we are focused on helping those most in need. We encourage customers behind on their WSSC Water bill to take advantage of this program as soon as it’s available on March 1.”

“This amnesty program is another vital resource within our ever-expanding portfolio of financial assistance programs to help customers to get their accounts in good standing,” said WSSC Water General Manager and CEO Kishia L. Powell. “I thank our commissioners for approving Get Current 2.0, which helps our financially vulnerable customers and ensures we recoup the funds needed to invest in and improve our critical infrastructure.”

As of this week, nearly 80,000 accounts, totaling more than $51 million, are past due; the vast majority (95 percent) are residential customers.
